Back for help again, can anyone tell me if there is anyway to tell the pitch on my prop. I have a 1978 mercury 700 OB 70HP. The only identifying marks on the prop is the letter R. Any help as always is appreciated.

Joe B.

Re: prop pitch

Without a number for reference it is very difficult. You may be able to narrow it down if you knew the diameter, then try and cross reference props for your specific motor that have the same diameter.

I had the same problem and ended up taking it to a prop shop and they measured the pitch for me with some kind of gauge.

Often, stamped on the hub hiding underneath the nut assembly is a part number which can be checked in your shop manual.
