What do the different pitches on a prop mean? Is there an advantage between a 4 blade prop over a 3 blade prop?

Re: Prop pitch?

You might repost this question in the prop forum.

Pitch means the amount of travel a prop does in one revolution. An 18" pitch prop would move 18" forward with each revolution. 4 blade props generally have more surface area than 3 blade props. More blades are generally used for slower, heavier loads. However, there are five blade high performance props.

the higher the pitch, the harder to turn, so the lower your RPM's are going to be.

every inch in pitch you go up, you lose 200 rpms.
