Prop question 1990 Sea Ray 220cc/ 260hp A1

My friend at work has this boat, he is currently runnin a 15x17" prop and says he hits 35-40 MAX speed. I have a 1996 215 Express Cruiser with 250 hp merc and hit 50. <br /><br />Should he be going faster, I am not sure what RPM he hits, what is the max WOT rpm for his motor?<br /><br />His prop is slightly damaged and is considering buying a new one should he stick with the same pitch/diamter or play with it?

Boat design, including I/O vs. Outboard has alot to do with speed due to weight issues of an inboard. Also, they can't raise the engine height and gear ratios are different.<br />I bet you are running somewhere near a 20 pitch prop on yours...19 maybe???

Depends on the rpm at wot.Whats he do with his boat? ski ?. With that rig, and engine sounds like an 19 pitch would be a better match. Don't think itt'le get him up to 50 though.If he moves up in pitch he will lose some hole shot though.<br /><br /> Jim
