I have a 1992 Johnson 60hp, 3 Cylinder on a 16' Cajun Bass Boat, turning a 14X17 prop. I top out at 35mph at 5100rpm. I noticed that this engine came from the factory with a 12 or 13 3/4" diameter prop. Would I gain much speed from a smaller diameter prop with a different pitch. Am I correct to assume that a smaller diameter and less pitch would increase RPM, possibly exceeding the limits of the motor? Is the 14X17 optimal in your opinion?
