prop question

i recently purchased a prop from a guy and when i took my original off i had three pieces to it the prop the hub and a cone thing that was placed inside the hub. my question is do have to place the cone piece on the new prop it doesnt seem to fit the new prop with the hub inserted<br /><br />what does the cone do

Sounds like you have a new Merc style prop with a big plasic hub a brass spline sleeve and you should have a thick brass thrust washer.If you do you'll have to get a washer that sits between the nut and the prop, the thrust washer will still work with this prop.<br />By the way what type of engine is this on?
