I have a 17ft pontoon with a 50hp johnson 2 stroke with a 12.5 x 13 prop. For the first time the other day I loaded it up with people and weight and it took on its barge roll pretty good. My question is what would switching to a 12 x 10.5 or a 12.5 x 8 prop get me? Thanks

Please read the stickies at the top of the page and get us as much info as possible.
Never heard of a 17.?The best way to check your setup is some test runs lightly loaded.

Re: prop question

I have read up on prop changes and I am just not positive on the end result. Regardless of weight aboard I can turn 5,500 rpm wot. Only boat performance changes. When I am loaded up on passengers- If I drop prop pitch size from 13 to a 8 what generally should be expected. I know my rpms would increase but what would be overall benefit? If it were a planing hull would it plane at a lower rpm? With the increased weight-Could I achieve same speed as when using the higher pitch prop but with less rpm?

Re: prop question

If you increasing your load you do want to drop your pitch but dropping it all the way down to a 8 is a huge drop, try a 9 or 10 and that will increase your handling with your load on a pontoon. If you drop to a 9 pitch it will increase your RPMs by about 800 if you have the room for that.
