Prop question

I recently purchased an Endura 32 Minn Kota from boatus. It runs fine and is made well except for the prop which seems to be made of a cheap plastic....I just wanted to know is if I changed my prop would it make my boat run faster? If so what kind of prop do you suggest?<br /><br />BTW im using the minnkota for my 11' alluminum boat(very small)<br /><br /><br />Also(i know this is off topic)has anyone ever heard of a pflueger phantom electric trolling motor? I have an M-10 and would like to know the lbs of thrust for it.<br /><br />Thanks in advance

Speedy, MK makes props for most of thier motors, that is of composite structure and much tougher than the std. pure plastic....whether it's available for the 32 or not, I can't say...<br />Might give'em a call and see if they do..

My guess is that a new prop with a different blade pitch may make it run faster. However, I would also venture to guess that it might put extra strain on the electric motor and would eventually cause premature failure. In my experience with several MK trolling motors, those blades that come on those motors hold up very well.

could it cause failure if i was to buy an mk prop specially made for my engine? because when i bought my motor at boatus i saw a couple of props in the mk display

Well, if you buy a prop designed for engine by MK, I can't see how it would damage the motor. I wonder if those props are deisgned to make it operate faster, though. Just email MK from their website and find out.

Speedy064,<br /><br />I have not seen different pitch props for MinnKota or MotorGuide. Usually they are just specified to the diameter of the motor. There are "weedless" 3 blade props. <br /><br />What is your rpm and speed at WOT? ;-) <br /><br />I recently used a 30lb MotorGuide on a 10' alum rowboat. Two people in the boat plus fishing gear. Yes, it was a tight fit! We were trolling for pickerel in shallow water. The MG has 5 forward speeds, and we trolled at settings 2 or 3. The weedbeds are getting high, and need to keep the spoons just over them. We would troll for about the last 2-3 hours before dark. Settings 4 and 5 are too fast for fishing, and we only use them to get us back, ASAP. The Exide Nautilus Gold Deep Cycle still had plenty of charge left. It would be fully charged by the next AM. I believe this battery would be considered a "economy" brand battery. Cost $59 locally. I am not sure, and the battery is not here, but believe it is group 24, 180 min battery. It is Deep Cyle only, not their start/deep one.

The only reason I want myboat to go faster is because I have a bit of a travel before getting to the spot that I would like to fish. I have to travel through a lagoon system and I kind of feel embarrased when other boats pass me.(the 32lbs moves my boat fine i was justwondering if there was anyway for it to move faster.im coming off of a very slow trolling motor called a pflueger phantom m-10 thats why i was wondering if anyone had any info on it.)

Speedy064,<br /><br />Don't know anything about the pflueger. <br /><br />For that speed, going to a 40lb thrust won't do it, either. I have run a 40 on the same boat, and it is faster on higher settings, but not significantly. That is the job of a small, 5-8hp, gas motor.
