Prop replacement - lube on thrust washer?

I am replacing my prop and there is a brass thrust washer that I assume I need to leave on with the new prop that didn't come with one. It is tapered on the shaft. I got a tube of grease to lube the shaft. I am assuming that I should not let any grease get on the face of the washer, correct?

It won't hurt it to get grease on it. I like to use anti-seize when putting a prop back on.

But is it supposed to be greased? I covered the shaft splines really well but left the washer dry and clean. Should that be ok?

As long as the shaft is greased you will be okay....... the washer will end up with grease on it when you run the boat
