Prop rock guard

Anyone have any home fabricated rock guards for their outboards? Let's see em'. I need to fab one up for my '72 rude 6 hp fisherman and I need some ideas. I can't use a Mac's River Runner because you need to bolt through the skeg and the skeg on this motor is also part of the lower unit oil housing so drilling is a no no. My only option is to bolt through the cavitation plate. I fish the mighty Susquehanna here in PA and it's nothing but big rocks and rock ledges that like to eat up props.

The tip of the skeg does not hold oil, and that's where the hole gets drilled isn't it?

In the pictures that I see with the factory rock gaurds mounted on a large skeg, the bolts are about half way up....my tiny skeg has the oil drain half way up the skeg (hense this is why I want to protect the skeg/prop/lower unit from rock damage). I figure that I have only about on inch or so to drill into and I don't want to risk being alittle off on a bolt hole. I'll try and get a picture of my skeg this weekend and post it.

I wouldn't bother with the river runner model, people that use that type report more broken props. The problem is rocks get lodged between the guard and prop breaking the blades.

Here is a link to the Rock Hopper Motor Guard at Cabela's. I do not know about them, but they got good reviews at Cabella's.
