I currently have a r/h prop on my Aq125 but am looking at a l/h hand for replacement.
I understand both will work but am wondering if there is a preference or benefit running one or the other.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... The advantage to a righthanded prop is, there's more of 'em, usually cheaper,....

You also should have a prop that turns in the opposite direction to engine rotation (most engines being LH) so as to reduce the effect of torque on the hull...

Get same actual prop for replacement, to install a LH rotating prop will need a gear case that rotates CCW, if not prop will perform awful. LH props are for dual engine installations.

Actually, on a Volvo all it involves is changing the shift cable position... Quite a simple job...

There are actually a lot of the older Volvo drives that run LH props for some reason. Not sure exactly why. Our old Bayliner used a LH prop but it may have been because there was more weight on the left hand side. That was where the galley was.

thanks for the reply's my real concern was the loading and wear and tear on the transmission thrust must change up or down when changing prop direction

Those Volvo drives are designed to be able to turn in either direction, will not be a problem.
