Prop rubber rubbing

I have a 2004 Yamaha 60 hp on a pontoon. Replaced the prop last year with Solas (exact same as what came off). I seemed to spin a little hard but ran it anyways. I checked it today and I could barely turn it. So I threw the old prop on with the same parts used with the new one. Spun as it should. Boat didn't feel like the brakes were on ... lol.

Problem is that rubber ring at the bottom of prop rubbing on lower unit causing constant friction. Can I grind, cut or even remove that ring?

You must have forgotten to install your tapered "thrust" meaning what the thrust caused by the propeller turning pushes against... "washer", rather than your lower unit casting.

I've measured and checked both props. Rubs when rotated by hand and under power. when I swapped them just took rubbing prop off and old one on and I can literally see the old one has more clearance. I'll take another look next weekend. Thanks

How about you just taking a picture of the prop shaft and LU casting and then pictures of the old and new prop in the front view.....the view of that part of the prop that is closest to the LU....any hardware, washers and what all, include in the pics and explain when used. Another couple wouldn't hurt taken at the side of the LU with the prop installed ready for the nut and all but pushed up as far as it will go showing the relationship between the front of the prop barrel vs lower unit casting immediately in front of the prop.

Ayuh,.... Not all props use the same thrust hub, 'n hardware,....
Sounds like you need the proper hardware kit for the prop that rubs,....
