Hi....

I bought my first boat a few months ago and after having to rebuild just about everything...including stringers, decks
etc..she is finally in the water and running great

The boat is a 1998 Wellcraft Excel 21SL....2700lbs dry with engine and drive

I thought the engine was a VP 5.0GL but in my rebuilding I see it was replaced with a 5.7 ]
Has a Cobra SX Drive......Transom Shield said SX-C1 Drive says SX-C2 1.60 Ratio

Volvo Penta says a 5.7 should be 4800RPM WOT though the injected models (mine is carb)
are listed in some places as 5000RPM

The current prop is the stock 14 1/2 x 19 3 blade VP prop

Now my question

When running the boat....she easily pulls 5000RPM and i am sure she will easily go another 200 to 400 rpm
but I have not wanted to take her there

Therefore to keep her in the 4800 range it would seem I should go to a 21 or even a 23 pitch 3 blade
prop......or go to a 4 blade prop in the 20/21 range

Any recommendations by someone more knowledgeable than me would be appreciated
I want speed....and also like some of the traits I've read about the 4 blades? Unfortunately
my speedometer does work by the manual says my boat wit the 4.3 six will do 43.5mph

Thanks
Bob

Re: Prop Selection Help

Make your adjustment(s) based on one inch of pitch equaling 150-200 rpm change. It works.
