Hello, I'm in need of some help picking out a prop. I recently aquired a Johnson 225 late 80s motor without a prop. I'm using it to push a 21 foot center console for some inshore fishing. I don't need to go super fast and trolling will be in the picture .just need help heading in the right direction of selecting the right prop for my application any help is greatly appreciated .Thanks!

Do you think it makes a difference if it's 3 or 4 blade? Aluminum or ss

Depends on hull design and weight.

On my 21’ (#3800) going from aluminum to SS was an improvement.

My 22’ (#5200) came with an Evinrude 15x17 aluminum prop. Did ok, once on plane but horrible coming out of the hole. Felt like a slipping clutch on a dragster.

Went to an Evinrude Offshore Rengade)14.25 x 17 SS 4 blade. Improved the hole shot a good bit. Stopped the blow out I’d get from time to time in the rough. Happy with the results for past 8 years.

This spring I ran some performance tests on the 4 blade (high slip at crushing speeds and faster) and went shopping to fix the problem.

Ended up with 15x15 3 blade. Cut slip in half. Better hole shot. Better top end speed. Goes against everything thing you hear but seeing is believing

Thanks for the input! I appreciate it .I'll have to do some testing and tuning myself to see what my boat likes .
