I know the part numbers are different... and if that's all that matters, tell me and lock the thread or what have you.

I'm just wondering if only the parts listed on mercruiserparts.com (for prop shaft) will fit my 69 500 or if something from another year with different p/n would fit.

For instance I found a p/n 44-38127 for cheap but mercruiserparts has me listed as a 44-75365. Don't know if there are differences in diameter, length, and spline pattern... maybe someone who's swapped a lot of parts can chime in here.

TIA

Re: Prop shaft compatibility

Unlike car manufacturers, Merc are usually pretty good with their part numbers. If the number is different, then it's because the part is different.

Re: Prop shaft compatibility

Did a quick lookup.....
1969 Merc 500 uses 44-38127 ......some old stearndrives does too ( Renuault 60 )
In 1971 there was a change....to 44-55911 now superseded to 44-75365 .

Bout might work in you engine, BUT are NOT identical, might be the treads on the prop nut (switched to finer treads on some modes around 1970 +/- some years :)

you know, I edited this because you were absolutely right. I actually used my serial number this time (sadly, for the first time) and found the p/n you mentioned was right. Apologies
