I am able to feel a slight amount of end play on the prop shaft of a 1992 40HP Mariner. I think you would refer to it as runout. Is this normal and if not how do I correct it? Thanks.
You have some slop while working that propshaft back and forth on any Merc gearcase in this hp range.What problem is this gearcase giving you that you are trying to resolve?
Had water in the gearcase last fall. The play is up/down or side/side, not in/out. In the process of replacing waterpump impeller, gaskets and seals. Wondering if the prop shaft needs attention as well. No oil leakage noticed but the gearcase was 1/2 full of water. Will also replace fill and vent screws and new gaskets.
