prop shaft exposed over winter

My outdrive is a Volvo DP-s and I need to get the props reconditioned. I would like to take the props off now and get them reconditioned over the winter, but I'm concerned the nasty Boston weather will be harsh on the prop shaft. I was thinking of waiting until spring since I would like to change the gear oil, but I bet I can get some better prices for reconditioning over the winter rather than spring time.

Any thoughts?

If your concerned smear them with grease and rubber band a gallon zip lock bag over them........ just remember they live in water so the winter really will not hurt them.

Thick grease. Cover it.

Will be better protected than it'd be with the prop on it.

I agree with this. Also, go ahead and change your gear oil now. Don't wait until spring. This is part of winterizing...

They're stainless steel, so what can happen? Probably better things to worry about like water/freezing/winterizing the motor, etc. Good Luck!
