Prop shaft parts questions/information

Ok, the prop I currently have installed is the Merc Black Max (stock) prop # 48-78120A40 19P. Last weekend I noticed that one of the blades has been bent out of shape a wee bit and a small gouge is in the same blade as well. Could have been from striking an underwater deadhead this past weekend, could have been there since I bought the boat last September and only just noticed it last weekend. Either or, looking for a spare as well as a replacement prop.

So when I visit the local marine supply store, he informs me that I would have to update the prop AND hub to the new Flo-Torq II design, because my prop design does not have the plastic removable hub design. He also mentioned that unless he could find a rebuilt prop of "my design", I couldn't really re-use my current prop (once re-conditioned) unless I changed everything over again. Which im not sure how much of a difference in mounting the two different setups would be. I have not seen a Flo-Torq II design removed from a sterndrive.

Are these older design parts worthwhile to continue using or am I better off updating my stern drive to this Flo-Torq II designed hub & prop?

In reference to my attached below photo, #64 through 68 are identical to what I removed. The other parts I did not see, which could have been buried inside the prop and came off all in one shot.

thanks to any replies

Flo Torque II is designed to be a direct replacement for the old design.

True that you have to have the correct hub for the new design.

Should you convert? I don't know that it would be worth it if yours can be repaired.

Well, i'm guessing it would just come down to availability of older designed props in my area. If everyone is only carrying Flo-Torq designs, then im basically S.O.L for an older prop.

Regarding my prop, it probably can be reconditioned, however the blade that I noticed was bent, looked like it had already been repaired at some point in time prior to me owning the boat. So if it has already been done once, and possibly twice, the service life of the one blade might not be boat worthy.

Well since I do need to get a spare prop anyways, I have ordered in a new prop from the marine supplier and I will see what he ordered me tomorrow afternoon.
