PROP SHAFT THREAD PROBLEM

WHILE INSTALLING A NEW PROP NUT KIT ON MY 1985 70 HP RUDE I NOTICED THE NUT WAS TRYING TO CROSS THREAD DUE TO MINOR DAMAGE TO STARTER THREAD HOW CAN I CORRECT THIS I THOUGHT OF FILE MAYBE DREMEL BUT I WANTED TO KNOW IF THERE MAY BE A SPECIALTY TOOL AVALIBLE ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED<br />THANK VADER

if you can find someone with a tap and die set, that may work. just a thought

You can get a thread file like this at most hardware stores JUST be sure you get the right one<br /><br />The nut should help pick it out <br /><br />

Like the previous guys have said; a file or, better still, a die set will fix it. A complete tap & die set should cost you about $20 link <br /><br />However, if you've already successfully forced the nut across the damaged thread, that often takes care of the problem right there.
