I'm new to the boating world so I'm hoping you all can help me out. I took my pontoon out Sunday it has a 2003 50hp Mercury on it (model# 50elpto). It's ran perfect every time I've taken it out and even on Sunday but at the end of the day I nosed into the docks and we started to drift away before I got it tied and off so I gave it some throttle but it wouldn't go anywhere. The rpms would go up and the water would roll behind the boat but the prop wasn't turning. Got it home and pulled the prop off to check for a spin hub and once I got it off I put it in gear but the prop shaft still spins freely. I checked the throttle linkage and it all looks good and I also drained the lower unit oil and it was still brand new oil at full capacity with no metal on the magnet. There was no abnormal noise or vibration it was just one second it was working fine then the next it was nothing. Is it possible that I sheared my driveshaft or my engine coupler went out? Really hoping I won't need a lower unit rebuild. Thanks in advance for any help.
