Quick dumb question.

I took my prop off to cut out some fishing line i seen in there, 1989 Johnson 90 HP VRO. (I just bought my boat a month or so ago)

I was going to put some marine grease on the shaft when I put the prop back, but when I check my manual that came with the boat, it said to use OMC gasket sealing compound on the splines, is this correct?

Should I go pick some up from dealer?

Re: Prop Shaft

Personally, I use zinc based anti-seize compound. It works great for me, stops rust, lubricates, and allows easy removal of the prop.

What ever kind of grease you have laying around is better than nothing. Using the wheel bearing grease you use on your boat trailer bearings is better! You do not need to be real sloppy here, just a meadium coat is sufficent. You do not have to be too worried about what to use here! A big thing is removing the prop each year at least once to check for fishing line and regrease!
