Hey all,

I just got a 1981 60HP Johnson Model# J60ELCIA and put it on my boat. It ran great.

I need to buy a spare prop just in case I need it.

Anyone know the proper size/pitch and spline count for my outboard?

Thanks,

shade,

Without knowing how many rpm's you are turning, you're guessing.

Over pitching a prop. (under rev.) is just as detrimental as underpitching (over rev.).

Your engine is designed to operate at wide open throttle between 4500 and 5500 rpm. I would prop so that it runs at the upper end of that range.

Ok, Thank you for the information.

I found a prop on on ebay that had a chart and it said it would fit my outboard. It has 13 splines. Please let me know if this will work as a spare prop.

Size: 12 1/4 x 15
Part number: 386786

Auction Link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2416397861&category=26456

Chart Link:
http://www.shipstore.com/ss/html/MWC/MWC012038.html

Did you check the prop based on the size and weight of your boat? You really need to know the prop you are running now and the rpm to be sure where you are at.Most props have the diameter
and pitch stamped on them.
Its kind of like selecting a gear in your car,
if you just stick it in 2nd gear and go drive
your car isnt going to work very well.
The prop is your "gear" you need to select the right one based on your needs.Without knowing how it does in its present "gear" it is just an
educated guess what "gear" prop to use.
