hi: i have a new to me 1986 four winns 245 sundowner aft cabin with a merc 350 260 hp, saturday is the second time i had the boat out and could barley get the boat on plane. mechanic said that motor should be around 42 to 4400 rpm, the most i could get out of it was 3800 rpm and the motor is strong.

im sure that it has the wrong prop on it but i just dont know which size prop to get, and i dont have the money to go buy a bunch of props. i tried to find out what prop came with the boat when it was new but cant find any info on it. any help would be great thanks in advance. i tried to find any on the existing prop but cant find any at all.

Re: prop size

If you can't find the number on the outside of the hub, pull the prop nut off and washer. It will likely be visible under the aforementioned.

A Solas Amita will only run you about $100 delivered from iboats and will work well. Available in 3 or 4 blades. How do you see yourself using the boat?
For a cruiser. In simple terms...top speed, get a 3, just above everything else(performance wise) get a 4.

Re: prop size

With your gear ratio, usually on the outdrive, prop size, wot rpm and gps speed we can tell how well your setup is doing.
If a prop reduction is needed we can probably tell you how much but without the prop size we won't know what number will work.
If the motor is from 86 it may be tired.
