I have a 1990 Evenrude Tracker on a 17ft Bass Tracker tournement v17. It has a 11 1/4 X 21 Pitch
prop. When the livewell is full i cannot get on plane. My tach says 4,400 RPM when wide open. What prop should i use. I also seem to have a hard time firing the engine the first time. After that it starts right up the rest of the day. Havent figured that out yet. Any help would be great.

Re: PROP SIZE

1990 Evinrude should have an electric primer solenoid...pump fuel bulb up until tight...raise coldstart lever on control box...switch key ton on position... push in and hold key in while cranking engine...this opens fuel primer... fuel will not go into intake unless engine is cranking...As for prop size... top of rpm range should be right at 5500 rpm wide open...no more...you can come down to19 pitch...possibly 17...but do not go over 5500 rpm

Welcome pauljr!

A couple of things -- we assume that you have the 2 cylinder motor. If so we are going to target 5800 rpm with your average load. So to go from 4400 to 5800 may indicate theres more here than just a prop swap.

Are you sure the motor is running on all cylinders? Hows the compression? Is the tach accurate?

Re: PROP SIZE

Yes it is a 2 cylinder, i was wondering if maybe my throttle linkage was not working properly. As far as my tac i think its accurate. The compression is good and runs really smooth. I hope it is just the prop, i also should probably get a hydrofoil. The boat runs really nice after the initial start. Based on the previus posters comments i have been doing it wrong. I just squeeze the ball and push the primer button on the key a couple of times and it usually starts after about 3 minutes of on off cranking.
