Prop Suggestions

Owner of a brand new 2010 Senza 226 and looking for prop suggestions. I wanted a DP but the end of year price on the one I bought with the SX was too good to pass up so I bought the 2010 rather than waiting for an 2011. The engine is the VP 5.7 Gi. The standard prop is a 14.5 X 21 aluminum which isn't going stay on the boat. I am not against buying two and changing them as needed.

I'm a new boater and relatively ignorant but I read a good bit. Stingray did some excellent write up on props and I'm wondering if that info would translate over (in a general sense) to the Larson. They love the Merc High five for tubing and boarding etc. suggesting that it is unequaled in power. However in the tests it cost about 10mph at the top compared to the Merc 4 blade Vensura which was the top end best perfomer. However they found that going up to a 23 pitch blade and opening up the vent plugs lost very little in terms of acceleration and gained a few mph on the top end.

What do you Larson gurus suggest?

Re: Prop Suggestions

I just picked up a similar boat. 208 LXI w/5.0 MPI. It was preowned and came with a 14.25x19 alum 3-blade. Whoever owned it went from the same prop you have to the 19. I would NOT recommend that size. It overrevved the engine. I just picked up a michigan wheel vortex alum 14x20 4-blade. For the price the thing is awesome! Good hole shot, GREAT handling, and top speed was right around 50-52 at 4500-5000 rpm... Cruising by myself I was getting 50 mph at 4500. Overall a great upgrade for the price.

In all the typing, not once did you state what you were trying to accomplish with the prop change. Have you even used the boat yet? If no then how do you know what it does, if yes, id bet not enough to know enough to make an informed choice.
Use the one you have for a month or so and see what areas, if any you need to improve on.
No two boats are the same and thus you need to make your choices based on your boat.

Read the prop sections and talk to a prop shop, they may loan or rent different ones to try.

14.5 X 21 aluminum which isn't going stay on the boat
Why not???

Re: Prop Suggestions

Boat will be used for two different things. Pulling adult kids and their kids on tubes and wake boards and cruising so I'm looking for good grunt without giving up too much on top. The high five will cost too much on the top end. The boat was lake tested and it's nudging the 5K mark with the 21 aluminum which is its limit. Not a fan of aluminum. Already spoke to Ken at prop gods and to start am going with the Rev 4 in a 19. If that doesn't pull the Revs down too much I'll try a 21 and play with the vent plugs for the hole shot.

Re: Prop Suggestions

we had a 14x19 4 blade solas on our boat and it was only 2 mph slower on the top end, the hole shot and mid ranger were way better.

Re: Prop Suggestions

just wondering if you had any luck finding a good prop for your senza. I've got a 2007 226 with the 5.7gi and I'm not happy with the 3 blade 19 aluminum.

Re: Prop Suggestions

Just bought an aluminum 4 blade 14 x 20 prop last weekend for my 2008 LXI 228. Gets up on plane quicker. Top end speed down about 2 mph. Definitely worth trading speed for holeshot and quicker plane times.

What sort of numbers are you getting ie:top speed, rpm etc. I had a prop shop recommending a 4 blade 18p.

With just myself in the boat rpm's got to 5000 at WOT. With my family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children) and a full tank of fuel rpm's about 4800 at WOT and speed about 50-52 according to speedometer.
