i have a new 9.9 merc 4 stroke on a 12' alumacraft john boat, with a 3x9x9 stock prop.it tops out at about 20 gps mph.the merc prop finder suggest a 11.5 pitch.i think that the motor is under proped now.there is a rev limiter on the merc.i don't know how the motor repsonds when the rev limiter kicks in.is it noticeable or will the rev limiter just not allow the rpm's to top the 5800 mark.is there a portable tack avalable to check the rpm's with before i spend money on a new prop. thanks

Re: prop/tach

The rev limiter will stop you from going over the limit..by cutting the ignition in and out.

TMD

Re: prop/tach

when you say that it will cut the ingnition in and out,is it something that you are going to notice like a miss or will it just seem like it is holding it steady at the max rpm.
thanks
