I have an ‘86 Johnson 70hp (3 cylinder 2-stroke) outboard with a propeller that won’t spin. I was using it over the weekend and felt something slip at high RPMs. At around 3500RPM the slip would happen and the engine would just rev up a ton. I was able to move at a low speed for a bit then it stopped moving all together at all RMPs. I took the engine out of the water and saw a bunch of heavy braided fishing line wrapped around the pin holding the propeller on and then around the propeller itself. I took the prop off and even though I heard you can’t typically see this I felt confident that I could see that the rubber bushing was sheared off the outer metal cylinder. So I ordered a brand new propeller and threw it on but unfortunately it still won’t spin. The engine is otherwise starting up, staying on, and will rev when I put it in gear but it won’t spin the prop at all. The only other issue I see is that no water spits out the side like it normally does. Does anyone have any ideas as what to what this would be or how I could fix/troubleshoot it?? Thanks a ton in advance!!
