prop ?

can a dinged prop. cause prop cavitation. Or worsen it.

Motor is a 40 hp Mercury 4 Cyl.
Prop is original with with motor
boat is a Pro V 16 Aluminum.

It sure could.If the dings are bad enough it can cause problems in the gearcase.
