Propeller cone stuck - Any Ideas??

I have an older ('84 I think) Volvo A270 Leg with a stuck propeller cone. I have taken out the center allen-head screw and put many a screw driver through the tool-hole but preceeded to bend everyone of them while trying to unthread this cone.

I am trying to turn this counter-clockwise and it does not appear to have locking tabs. Lastly I have doused this with WD40, but this will not budge. I am thinking putting a torch to it to see if the heat would loosen it up but fear that it will burn up the whole lower unit.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Is it a zinc cone? If so, it will melt at @800 degress F which is easy to obtain with a hot torch. If it is steel, I would try heating it and rapping the screwdriver with a sharp blow to see if you can knock it loose.

Hope this helps,

John

Thanks John,

It does not appear to be zinc but appears be aluminum which I would think is just as susceptible to heat. Looks like this might be my only option though ... the current prop is working okay so I will give it a try at the end of season.

Thanks again,

I was able to finally get this prop off!! I tried induction heat, blow torch and about 1000 wacks with my hammer - and nothing. Finally I read a posting about a penetrating oil called PB Blaster ... cost me $7 at the local hardware store. I sprayed it on and let it penetrate for about 5 minutes and off came the prop.

I've heard other success stories with PB blaster.Apparently penetrates better than others.I wonder if it might help others with stuck props.
