I recently spun the prop on my 86 Bomber, with a 110 Johnson motor. The information stamped on the prop appears to be "J3 19 R PROPCO" I took it to my local marine store, and they said it was a Michigan Wheel prop, 19 degree pitch.
They sold OEM Johnson props, and ordered me a 3 1/4 x 19 prop, which I put on the boat and ran this weekend. The boat struggles to come up on plane, and WOT RPM's dropped from 5500 to 4700. The boat also handles very poorly, causing a severe pull to left and cavitates when trying to trim up while on plane.
When I spoke with them this morning, they said I need to drop to a 15 pitch prop to get my RMP's back up, and ordered it today.
I'm new to this and need some advise from the experts. One item of note, is the blades on the OEM prop are a full 1" wider than the blades on the old prop, which I know is contributing to the problem.
My question is: Should I go with the OEM 15 pitch prop (I assume with the same style blade) or try to find another prop with blade width of current prop, at 19 pitch?
