What difference is a 9 1/4 x 8 prop on a 15 hp evinrude compared to a 9 x 11 prop, and are they exchangeable on the same motor. It's a 1986 motor. I was told either would fit. Thanks for your help.

Re: propeller question

Like different gears in your transmission, Knobby.

The 9.25X8 is low gear, The 9X11 is high gear.

For a kicker, troller or on a big, heavy displacement boat, use the 9.25X8.

On a light skiff or Jon, use the 9X11.

Good luck. :)

Re: propeller question

Knobby
I agree with JB. The standard prop that came with the motor should be 9.5 by 10 and it works fine with 12 and 14 foot light aluminum boats with only two 150 lb fisherman. If your boats Bigger or you have more weight go with the 9.25 by 8. There is also a 9 3/8 by 9 Stainless Steel p/n number 389892. The high thrust prop is p/n 176266 and is 4 blade aluminum and has about double the reverse thrust.
