propellershaft play

I just removed the propeller from my 1981 evinrude 140.should there be side to side play? How tight should the prop be?

myles,<br /><br />The propshaft will "give" a little if pushed.<br /><br />Make sure you grease the splines before re-installing the prop.

In & out play yes the shaft should go in about 3mm & spring back this is the indent spring doing its thing.Side to side is a different thing a little is ok alot is not.(Im a poet & didnt know it )Torque the nut to 55ft/lbs hope this helps
