Hello- I have a mid-seventies vintage Reinel i/o with a 120 HP Mercruiser. A great boat when it all works well! It is old, so propbably not the strongest engine, but it has worked before and I hope it will again.

I have a long-standing issue with the boat not being able to plane out when more then two people are in the boat. I have fiddled with this for years now without a good answer and I would love to sort it out!

I have three Hustler props I bought years ago as a replacement for the Mercruiser prop, and none of them seems right. Can anyone weigh-in on which would be the "right" prop for this boat?

The choices:
14 1/4" X 19

14 1/4" X 17

14 1/4" X 15

Perhaps they are all wrong!

Any and all comments are welcome and appreciated!

THANK YOU!

Re: Propellor for older 19' Reinel

Thanks- sorry I missed it!

1) Performance issue you are trying to correct.
Trying to get the speed of the boat/RPM's of engine high enough to plane when more then two people are in the boat.

2) Current prop manufacturer, model, aluminum or stainless as a minimum.
Hustler aluminum prop HU1515A

3) Current prop diameter and pitch (required).
15 1/4" X 15

4) Wide open throttle RPM and speed with an average load (very helpful)
3600 (from memory)

5) Engine/drive make, model, year, and HP
Mercruiser 120HP 1972 (From small aluminum tag bolted to engine block:) 1336-3594A1

6) Boat make model, year, length and weight
Reinell Model RV-2000 I/O 1972 19' long,
According to aluminum tag on boat: "1700 lbs for persons and extra gear..."

We need that info Bond-o suggests.
It is very likely that you have a motor or setup issue.
I feel the boat should work with a 19" or 17" prop the 19 might struggle with water sports but should plane easily with more than 2 people. speed with a 19 should be about 35 or more.A 17 should handle even more people and do well with waterer sports.
get us that info we'll get you sorted out.

Ayuh,.... If that's All she'll pull, with a 15" prop,....

I'm guessin' you've got Serious motor problems, or the Wrong gear ratio in the drive....

The drive ratio should be 1.98:1....

Agreed,Your gear ratio may be stamped on the out drive somewhere.
I think a compression test is in order. If you know how to change plugs you can do a compression test.?

I will look for the gear ratio on the outdrive, and I will do a compression check. It will take me a few days to get the compression check done though.

I appreciate you guys taking the time to think about this and help myself, and the others. Thanks again.
