Question folks: What is the difference between the orange backed Johnson decals and the white backed ones? I am working a 1950 Johnson 5hp and all the decal sets I see do not match my motor??? Any one know the significance here?

It varied by year and by HP. In a given year one HP model may be different from another HP, and a given HP may vary from year to year. To compound things, there were USA and Canadian versions.

Some decal vendors only supply a single version that covers several years. If you want to replace a specific color, you may have to shop around.

If you are intent on matching the original, you would need to buy waterslide decals, not the modern easy-to-use "stickers".

First of all, you need to verify what you have. A 1950 5 HP Johnson would be a model number TN-25 or TN-26. The serial number would be in the range 787,024 - 869,939. TN models continued thru 1953.
