The Bayliner Trophy model 2002 I am considering has a Mercury 150 outboard mounted on the transom in such a way that the top lip of the motor mount does not rest on the tip edge of the transom but sits about 1 to 2 " above the edge.
Is this correct?

Re: proper mounting new outboard on Trophy

By default, most outboards are a little low. With the outboard low, you add a lot of drag, which burns fuel. The pro shop will raise the motor, try it, noting a gain of 5 mph. This is done with a boat, lightly loaded. They'll raise it again and note another 5 mph. At the point the motor starts catching air (especially in turns) , you would know that you've gone too high. The motor is lowered to the next set of holes. From that point on, the fisherman will add fuel, tackle and a buddy, now the motor is running low again. Later, if the boat is run light, then it's Okay. My older boat had the motor up by about 1 1/2". This worked quite well. I gained speed and saved gas from that point on.

How was the Fishing off Moro this year? We did pretty well up our way...
