Re: Proper OMC u-joints

Earlier Cobra's had different sized u-joint caps and center yoke, that's the difference. Find a place that lists both types of u-joints, or use the newer u-joints with a new center yoke of 1990 or later.

The link to the OMC ujoints you want is right above the picture.
http://bpi.ebasicpower.com/Merchant...GY&Store_Code=eBasicPower&Category_Code=OMC3D
You want the GLM20820. The picture for the 30 is not the right picture (they use the same picture for all of them)
The keepers for the ujoints you want are used on the inside of the of the yoke and hook around the cap edge. The 030's have an external (Outside the cap) snap ring.

You also have an anode there for the OMC/Volvo SX, and it will not fit your Cobra. You need this one.

http://bpi.ebasicpower.com/Merchant...er&Product_Code=GLM12774&Category_Code=OMC10A

Re: Proper OMC u-joints

I just got done replacing my u-joints on an '88 OMC Cobra 5.7. After getting everything put back together I went to grease the u-joints with Merc U-join / gimbal grease. I can tell the u-joints filled up with grease as it got progressively harder to pump, but I can't get grease to oooze out of anywhere (like I expected it to start oozing out by the base of the caps) However it has just gotten about impossible to pump anymore grease. I noticed the caps fit into a rubber lip at the base, which I am guessing is not allowing the grease to push by. Is this normal? Or should i be able to pump enough grease to eventually see it pushing out at the base of the caps? The u-joints I used where the ones linked to above by Don S. Thanks!

Don't pump to hard , or you will blow the seal and they will sling out the grease when they turn.
