I’ve dug a little around the prop section but really didn’t find the answer. I have four Winns 225 sundowner with a 5.8 omc. The prop I have is a 15x17 aluminum. I was really wanting to know what was the right prop size that came in the boat. Also, if I have a loaded boat, 6 plus people the boat has a harder time getting on plane, unless I move people up. At wide open I’m it’s reading 4200 rpms with this 15x17.

No prop factory delivered with engine or combo is the "right size" it's simply a starter medium pitched prop. You need to re prop a new engine soon after break en period has ended or when buying second hand boats. Need to distribute deck weight evenly to plane combo faster while engine revs middle to max wot rpm range factory stated, which is ? To choose a proper prop for your boating needs, will you always, some times, occasionally be boating with 6 up. Extra load kills any wot rpm range dialed right for light or medium loads..

Happy Boating

You are at the max rpm for your engine which is 3800 - 4200. so the prop on there is fine. Whether or not a different prop will do the same rpm, and improve top speed is subject to testing

Alright thank you. I think I may go for a 4 blade to help me with the planing. My boat wasn’t built for speed , so the 35 it does is great with me

What year is it? The engine? I quoted rpm figures for the late 1970s. Some time in the 80s the spec was changed to 4000 - 4400, then in the 90s 4200 - 4600. I guess ford figured out a way to keep the engine from flying apart:D

The engine is a 89 but the boat is a 90. I don’t want a engine blow out because I put the wrong prop on lol.
I coulda swore I read mine was 4200-4600, but I could be wrong

My source of info on the exact yr they switched from 4000 - 4400 to 4200 - 4600 is sketchy, so you might have the correct info. With I/Os, the engine and boat usually are the same yr
