Hey all,

I just got a Johnson 60HP Sea-Horse. This may sound like a dumb question. But which side are the bolt heads suppose to be on? The inside or the outside of the transom?

Also someone told me to put silicone in the holes and on the bolts before putting them on as well. Is this a good thing to do?

Anything else I should worry about or do when mounting the outboard to the boat?

Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I could argue pros and cons to both, having the bolts heads either inside or outsid. Personly, I would put the head on the inside, and the nut on the outside.

You should definitly silicone the bolts. this isnt so much to keep water out of the boat, It is to keep water from getting INTO the transom and rotting it.

Good Luck

Bolt head, inside the transom.

Agree on bolt placement.Once you get the motor mounted to optimal height on transom and are satisfied with its performance it's a good idea to also fill the slotted opening of the lower transom bolt hole level full of silicone. This will keep water from acting directly against the bolt shank where it pentetrates the transom.

To each, his own. I would suggest carefully, from the side. Uh, err, oh. Nevermind.

Cool Thanks,

I guess it would also be better to put the bolt heads on the inside. If I went to tilt the outboard with the heads on the outside the end of the bolt would probably get me in the ankle eventually since I have to step down into the transom to tilt it.

Also I think it looks better.

Thanks again,
