Sorry all I have another dumb question. I just want to make sure I am starting my engine correctly as I do not have an owners manual. However another member was nice enough to send me a service manual.

Anyways, if someone can tell me if I am doing something wrong. This is a 2003 Mercury 25hp 2 stroke tiller outboard with electric start.

1- Pump the primer ball till it is semi-firm.
2- Pull the primer knob out. (I have heard you push it in but my engine wont start without it out?)
3- Then I hit the starter button and it starts.

I know this is fairly basic but I just want to make sure. That primer knob part is what is causing these questions because I was reading something else that was talking about pulling it out then pushing it in and turning it?

just pump the bulb till it's firm. pull the knob out and in 2-3 times. Push in. Raise to fast throttle. start it up. Might need to pull primer out to prime it.

Re: Proper way to start engine?

Coolguy, thanks for the help. When you say raise to fast throttle are you talking about turning the primer knob or are you talking about giving it gas by turning the tiller handle?

Also when you mention I might need to pull the primer out to prime it... do you ever need to leave the primer out and leave it out until the engine is warm?

Thanks for any clarification you can give.
