I was wondering around the net and stumbled across this article.
I believe that this fellow knows his stuff and has most, if not all the answers to finishing questions.
It is quite long, but very informative.
It has step by step instructions, also it has do's and more importantly don'ts.
All the Vasoline and WD-40 users need to read it, then read it again.

Quite comprehensive.
My solution to doing all that work is to buy a crappy looking boat and keep it that way, dirt is a good UV repellent.
