What do they cost you? I got my bill Friday and it's $2500 this year (we can apply for a $470. grant). We're in an average sized house / lot in a decent area.

Here we are at least 2% of market value, including water and sewer, on a yearly basis

My property tax bill comes to $6000 a year on Long Island, It's mostly school taxes (65%), school budget vote this week, most of the budget increase is teacher salaries, salary numbers run from $32,000 for new starts to $181,000 for the superintendant.

Re: Property taxes

Our property taxes in minnesota are reasonable however when you figure all the diffrent taxes we pay here I think we are in the top 5 nationwide. However I guess we cannot complain to much because our schools are consistantly ranked high and the state is also ranked high in quality of life etc. guess it all comes with a price

Hommer, Thats a large machine you guys have
churn'n over there. It takes a fair piece of
taxes to keep it runn'n. I bet we pay nearly twice
the taxes most of you guys pay per capital with
our tax system ,we are one of the highest taxed
countrys in the world.

Howdy, went to an Ozzy Osbourne concert on the weekend... took a few extra days off. What a blast! Plywoody, My assessed value is 249000 for the $2400 in tax. Our Municipality is all so proud of the fact that the tax 'rate' hasn't increased this year. However, our assessments have increased steadily for 4 years now. Mine's gone from 189000 to 249000. in that time (no additions or mods.). So the bottom line is a steady tax increase here as well.
