Re: props and outdrives
i'm going through the same thing with my merc outdrive. I know just the lower unit casing is around $1000 new, then there's the labor of transferring the guts from the old to the new. I have no idea on costs related to omc drives but i'd guess it's about the same.

if the boat sits in the water all season, the worst thing is having a stainless prop on. Buy an aluminum one and have that on there most of the time if you can.

i've also been told that if the boat is moored or docked in tidal water to leave it in gear so the prop doesn't turn with the tide, to help reduce lower unit wear (and possibly corrosion).

from my experience over the years, the zincs you buy at the marine stores (camp and martyr) are garbage. They don't rot away like they're supposed to, instead your drive does. And the effect is worse when you have a stainless prop. Spend the money and stick with the omc zincs, or the mercury/quicksilver zincs; they should feel very light compared to the other zincs.
