whats the difference, and why is stainless supposed to be better? The only thing i have heard,is that if you hit something with a stainless you'll likely take out your gear box as well. whats the benefits of a stainless, more speed ? what ?
AquaStar
For a I/O maybe 1 more MPH. For an outboard due to cupping may be able to raise outboard and gain 2 MPH. If you hit something the prop does not fold over or do big damage. Never hit anything with I/O but with my kicker when I had a aluminum prop was always having to file nicks off the edge of the prop. Now that it is stainless steel does not even seem to scratch it.

Also they give you a bigger hole to fill with money.
Hi Aquastar1

1: For high speed boats SS props are a must as they can add 2-3 MPH

2: On heavy displacement boats sometimes they are used to get the boat up on step quicker and gain a little top end speed. Alum props will flex under heavy loads.

3: Like Boatist said they are always less maintenance when going over a sand or gravel bar.

4: Sometimes for the same reason we buy jewelry. Because they are pretty and make a boat look better (On a trailer).

There are people here who could give hundreds of pro's and con's but these were the four (best)main reasons I found when working in a marine parts department.

Since I got out of the marine field composet (sp) props have become the norm for (Gas) trolling motors. Which is what we use now.

Just my thoughts

Link
