Questions about props are many.

Let's get a bigger picture by adding up what members use, wants and experience.

When survey ends, the results will be posted.

Can’t do survey. Doesn’t have a field for “other bronze” under manufacture.

Sorry about that, 18rabbit.
Unfortunately it is not possible to edit answer categories after posting the poll. You're most welcome to select 'Other stainless', I'll compensate when evaluating the final survey results.

Thanks.

Re: Props - survey. Your input is needed.

Topline report , base is 51 votes:

Almost all are running a boat of planing design (96%), evenly spread over the sizes ‘up to 17’, 18 to 20’ and 21-25’ with a little fewer in the largest category.

The most popular motor size is 121-140 hp, followed by the smaller sizes. Not many have bigger.

The vast majority have motors of 80% or more, of max. rated hp for their boat, and 88% say it runs within recommended rpm at WOT.

Almost 2/3 use a prop different from the standard – 6 out of 10 still use aluminium. 3-blade design is by far most popular (92%) and although spread over a large number of brands, Michigan Match stand out as preferred.

Pitches are most 19” followed by even shares of 21” and 17”. Those three types cover 52% of all. 10% said ‘Don’t know’.

It is great to learn that a massive 88% claims to understand prop technology and this matches the combined categories of users who think their prop performs ‘Great’ and ‘OK’.

When looking for a new prop 18% wants same performance as the old one, another 18% wants better top speed, and 41% want overall performance.

It would please manufacturers to learn, that no less than 37% are willing to pay any fair price for a prop, provided it is good value. The rest has a budget of either $0-200 (43%) or $200-400 (20%).

Some suggestions;

Add Stiletto as a propeller choice. Most dont know Precision makes Turbo and Stiletto. Turbo and Stiletto are very different and not designed to do the same thing.

Add hi-perf, custom or race as a (one) prop choice. No need to get brand specific.

RPM's should be in ranges -- 4500-5000, 5000-5500, 5500-6000, 6000-6500, 6500 & up.

There is no such thing as a "standard" prop for most motors as they no longer come with a prop from the factory. Especially the class that has the most responses.

Overall, a very good survey. Really interesting.

Re: Props - survey. Your input is needed.

Thanks Dhadley,

as iBoat's forum is not really meant for for market research, the answer categories cannot be diversified in great detail - nor are filters allowed ('if answer in Q1 was xx, then skip Q2 and present Q3 with certain options'). Reports are much better if they can be filtered as well ('of those who responded xx to Q1, yy% said zz to Q2'), but this isn't possible either.

I did find a few logical errors as well, but not even an edit after submission of the poll can be made :(

It's normal that answer categories be adjusted after the first responds (like the hp-scale that now groups all 181+ into one category).

Anyhow, the outcome is pretty interesting in general and could, eventually, help in setting up a FAQ with prop stuff.
