Re: propulse?
We used one. I bought it when WM first got started selling them. Boat it was on was a 1978 21' Fiberform (about 3,800lbs), with a Mercruiser 260 outdrive.
Good points - playing with the adjustable pitch was nice. When they first came out the replacement blades were much cheaper (WM has jacked the price significantly). We liked the performance of the boat, hole shot, cruise speed etc. once we dialed it in.
Bad Points - When (not if) you hit something (even as small as a short piece of 2x4) you will most likely take out ATLEAST one blade, this will save the impact shock from hammering the whole drive system some - but, you are left having to replace a blade.
In three years of salt water running, we went through 6 replacement blades, but since the boat lived in the water, that meant hanging over the dock to pull the prop. Since going back to an aluminum prop, when I haul out about twice a year, there are usually dings, but you never notice anything when running.
Would I ever try one again? maybe on 75hp or less outboard on a boat that lives on a trailer, especially if one day I'm fishing, next day pulling toys...
If you do give one a try and you travel any distance, carry a "get home" spare prop and the tools needed for the swap.
