Getting ready to replace my 20 year old carpet with new 20oz marine carpet with rubber backing. I'm going to glue it down. After I pull the old carpet, is there anything I should put down to protect the old but solid deck? Hopefully locally sourced at home depot or lowes? I think i read it before on here but I cant find the old post. I'm sorry in advanced for reposting...

If the floor is presently in great condition and no rot or soft spots, then scrap off the old carpet and glue and buy some new glue and recarpet again. There would be no need to do anything to the floor before carpeting again. If you do have some rotted wood or any soft spots, they you have to address that before reinstalling carpet again... JMHO!

I would guess that the old glue would prohibit you from applying anything else but new glue. I used 2 part fiberglass resin on my new wood before the new carpet. Not sure if you could after the glue was already down. Me personally, I would replace the carpet with one sheet of vinyl flooring like what is in a new Tracker. I'll bet that would last forever.

All done. The floor was rock hard everywhere. The old carpet ripped up in one piece with only a few fibers left behind. I used it as template for the new carpet. The hard part was getting the carpet under the lip of the fiberglass floor in the bow.

Used a RO with 80grit and scrapper to remove the left over glue.

All done. New seats too on existing bases
