ProV 150 overheat at idle?

I have a proV150 that runs apparently fine at higher RPMs but the emergency buzzer turns on when I put it in gear and troll at minimum RPMS. It takes a few minutes for the buzzer to turn on. I turn the engine off wait a few minutes then its OK as long as I keep the RPMs up?

SHJ
Sounds like an overheating problem probably caused by a defective water pump. When was the last time the impeller was replaced? It could be that at low revs it is not pumping enough. Do you have a strong flow from the telltale at low revs? If not, time to look at that pump as you should every 2 years.

biggest problem aside from a pump is the pressure control valve grommet. needs to be replaced and the pocket cleaned every other year with the pump. usuall symptom is over heat after 5 min of idling but anything above 1000 RPM is ok.
if it leaks at idle the top stbd cyl wont cool.

Thanks,

I've already put a water pump kit in it. Is the pressure control valve grommet located in the top of the water pump housing where the water tube goes in? I can't find any reference to the grommet in the Yamaha repair manual.

hello
its located on the exhaust cover on the lower stbd side. looks like a small t-staat housing with 2 10mm hex bolts and a large rubber hose. its supposed to be serviced every 200 hours OR once per year just like the pump.

Problem Solved!!! I replaced the pressure control valve, Spring, and grommet. I just got the engine but it's a 92 model and the control valve had never been serviced, Naturally one bolt rung off(drill and tap)plus I used compressed air to blow through the water gallies to make sure they were not clogged up. It now runs fine with no overheating. thanks Rodbolt, I finally got to go fishing.
