Well like a dummy I went and bought pressure treated plywood for my alluminum boat. I know now that PT is bad on alluminum. Will I be alright using this for only one season or should I bite the bullet and buy the Marine grade now.

Re: PT Plywood

If it is going to see saltwater dont use it. I wouldnt buy marine grade either. Get a good quality plywood and seal it with either fiberglass or epoxy, it will last forever.

Don't use the pressure treated, the other option is to purchase good exterior grade plywood and coat it with epoxy.

All you need is a barrier between the plywood and the aluminum, it can be almost anything. Some companies use thick tape (pipe wrap works), or rubber strips, glassing it would work too.

Or just do it over again.

I would not install PT plywood in my aluminum boat.

Re: PT Plywood

if i were to buy some now i would look at the highest exterior grade ply, since you already bought it check the tag and google the type to see how and with what it was treated.
the old green stuff was wolmanize wood, now there are many different kinds the blue stuff i think is made from disodium octaborate, yellow wood something else.
check them out and see if there is any mention of metals used in it, ithink that's what is wrong for alum... different metals reacting

One other thing to consider is that it isn't just the metals used in in PT, the chemicals such as arsenic will also cause corrosion. Overtime the metals and chemicals will leach through any barrier and ruin the aluminum. Best advice is to get non Pressure Treated wood and continue on your restore.
