New issue, new post!

I'm setting up to test my PT&T and have scoured the net. I found a manual for these units only to find it has no hose connection instructions. its the earlier 4-hose, 2 ram Type A I believe. Neither it seems, does my seloc manual. It's like they all assume you know which hose goes where. Can anyone point me to a quick reference? I have the wiring diagrams etc, just not the hose connection layout.

Thx much.

Re: PT&T Question

I think this may be the manual you need, around page 20. May be the one you have. It looks like the hoses have two sizes of connections. I think you need to sign up with scribd - it's free.

"To download this document you must become a Premium Reader." They do try to sucker ya!

At any rate at least I can read this one. Yes there are 2 sizes of fittings. Thanks I'll see if this is better than mine at telling you which hose is which!

Cheers.

Click the upper left down load, and sign in with Facebook. I think that's how I D/L'ed. Once it's loaded save it and you can print.

Re: PT&T Question

Connect "as shown" and in the pic they only show you the end of the hoses. Is it safe to assume it doesn't matter which one goes into which hole aside from the fact that it obviously has to be the right sized fitting??

Forgive me if that's a stupid question but I'm a hydraulic dummy. :cold:

Re: PT&T Question

I'm not a facebook sort. No odds I saved the image files so I can adjust the contrast later.

OK I will assume that's right and one can mount either hose in either port. Thanks a bunch GA_Boater, that copy is way more readable than the one I had!!!! Me thinks it shall come in handy for more things than one!!

I think getting a free account works. I never got a premium account. I'm cheap. :joyous:

If the rams have two sizes of connection, match the hoses and go.

That they do sir! Hmm Im getting a yellow/goldish fluid in the reservoir which has a smell I can only describe as vaguely resembling Mercurochrome my folks would torture us with when we got a cut, as a child. might this be AFT? I always thought that was red.

Re: PT&T Question

Mercurochrome is OK, iodine burns if my memory is still working.

The manual calls for SAE 10w-30 or 10W-40. ATF is red, only color I've seen. Maybe it's nice, clean oil.

Re: PT&T Question

Mercurochrome burns like a...... too!! whoa! LOL

I've been searching and it looks like it might well be just simply hydraulic fluid??! I have plenty of motor oil kicking around just didnt want to mix things up in the reservoir.

Re: PT&T Question

Hydraulic is usually red too. But there may be some that isn't. Synthetic maybe?

Re: PT&T Question

not sure! I guess I'll go on the hunh. Theres about 1/2" of it left in the bottom of the reservoir so if I dont find any I'll purge it and use motor oil.

Re: PT&T Question

My motor is a 1976 85HP, but the tilt is from another motor. All I have is it's serial number (Canadian) which is 7071854.

Dual ram setup with a single solenoid.

I hit the local Canadian Tire hardware store in search of yellow hydraulic fluid but the didn't have any.
Some research has taught me that Castrol aero 40 is a yellow hydraulic fluid often used in aviation, as well as Royco LGF - also used in avation.

Re: PT&T Question

Whoa! So I opted to drain the pump and replace with proper oil. Did so. Seems the tilt tube is seized (not surprised) but the two smaller hoses are forming a wet layer (of oil) as soon as they're pressurized. I'm wondering if that's because of the seized tilt or are they just plain worn out? If I replace these, should I look for anything special??

Do you have any hydraulic repair shops in your area? Because of the high pressures in the system maybe let a pro with the right tools put new hose on between the ends. Probably best to do all four hoses, shouldn't cost too much. With the seized tube the pump should stall and the hoses shouldn't weep. Better to find this now than out on the water. Maybe the seized tube was a blessing in disguise. :concern:

Re: PT&T Question

You screw the large hose into the large hole and the small one into the small hole then bleed the system

You screw the large hoses into the large holes and the small ones into the small holes then bleed the system, flush all the old fluid out.
If it leaks at the fittings the threads might be dirty or they are not tight enough. If the hoses have lost their rubber coating and the fabric is showing you can find new ones on ebay sometimes. This picture is a higher resolution one.
power-trim-bleeding.jpg I use 5W-20 automotive oil.

Re: PT&T Question

Thanks for the higher rez scan 850. :)
OK so Some progress on this setup. The hoses are in need of re-fitting/replacing. That said, there are no visible leaks, yet when I try the system, one of the cylinders moves "out" about an inch (VERY slowly).then in rapidly and the other doesn't move whatsoever, in or out.
Anyone seen this sort of behavior before? Could it be hose related if no significant amount of leakage is present? Or am I looking at a possible valve job on the pump assy?
