Puc of shift/throttle cable arms

Does anyone have a pic of how the shift/throttle cables attach to the arm on a Merc 888 drive? I'm trying to figure out which cable is supposed to be closest to the transom and how the switch on the starboard side is supposed to work. Right now the starboard switch doesn't have any wires attached to it so it's not being used and if I can lock that arm in place, then my shifting problems would go away.

Before I replaced the drive, the shifting was perfect. With the replacement drive the cable must be all the way at the ends of it's movement before it shifts into forward or reverse. I'm thinking that something is wrong but I'm not sure that it's the lower shift cable since it worked perfectly with the old drive.

Thanks.

I would suggest you find Mercruiser service manual #2. perhaps ebay will have one. There is a lot more to getting the shift cables adjusted properly than just a picture will tell you.

Agreed. I have the instructions on how to adjust the cables but I don't know if it's even configured properly right now. I'll look around for the manual.
