Heading out to puget sound to dump the crab pots and try for some dungenes crab. We are heading to marine area 11, which is north from the narrows bridge to the tip of vashon island. Any tips or tricks or good places to crab. We are either gonna launch out of pt defiance or another marina my father knows about.

Tomorrow July 1 is opening day for crab..

Re: Puget Sound Crabbing

Just got back. Launched out of pt defiance, day island was way to steep to try and launch. Went to delco beach but didnt have any luck no on crabbing there. Then went to browns bout and had good luck there. Ended up taking home 7 dungeness and 1 red rock crab.

My vessel is about 30-40' too short to go up to the bearing sea. My boat handled the sound very well, only a couple times did the temp guage go to 198 or whatever it is open and that was the long cruise from delco to browns point. At the end she seemed to have a bit of blow by smoke, but the temps were good, havent check the oil yet tho. Tomorrow (Thursday) starts the fun of desalting a boat. Had a couple waves come over the bow. It got a lil bit rough.. All in all id say it was worth it. Anyone else go out today?

Went out today up on Camano Island, Limited out with 5 each. Got some great sized keepers. What are you using for bait? We used chicken legs and guts. Seemed pretty sure fire. Always fun to try and outthink these little buggers.

Most the ones we kept were over the 6 1/4 size. The biggest we caught was just over 7" what a mean lil bugger. We used chicken in 1 which did ok, and the other pot we used trout and a salmon head which did really good. One put we pulled up had 11 crab in it. All but 3 had to go back. :)

we got most the legeal size early, but as the day went on we kept pulling up the smallie so around 7 or we called it a day. We were in about 70-90' of water

Try the entrance to quartermaster harbor it is right across from point defiance boat launch.

We were thinking about that and got to the spot we thought it was but there was no one crabbing there. So im not too sure where quatermaster is.

Got 8 keepers all over 7" today with only 2 hrs soak time. As you leave the point defiance boat launch look across to where the ferry lands on vashon island to the right of there is a point just inside of that is quarter master harbor it enters between that point and the tip of maury island just inside the harbor close to shore in about 65-85ft of water at high tide and your in the right spot.
